Dog Island sits in Foveaux Strait seven kilometres south of Bluff, Southland. Its lighthouse and first lighthouse keeper's dwelling was built in 1867. In the 1920's another house was built then in 1979 the last house was built before closing due to the lighthouse becoming fully automated in 1989. The island ceased to be inhabited at that time. The remains of the three houses are featured in these images. These images represent a portion of the images captured. Thanks to heritage expert Rachael Ergerton for suggesting I photograph the dwellings, Dog Island Trust for facilitating flights and DOC for providing access.
