This exhibition brings together new works by Adrienne Martyn and Nela Fletcher, made at the former Queen Victoria Hospital in Waihōpai Invercargill in 2024. The exhibition invites viewers to consider the building not only as a historic site, but as a place marked by change and human presence. The works approach the hospital as a structure shaped over time through use and lived experience.
Adrienne Martyn’s series 'heart/mind' presents large-scale photographs focusing on the hospital’s interior spaces. Empty rooms, corridors, and temporary living areas are shown with careful attention to light, surface, and detail. Without people present, the images allow the building itself to come forward, marked by time, adaptation, and traces of past use. The photographs hold a quiet stillness, inviting viewers to look closely at spaces many might recognise, but perhaps have never seen in this way.
